Swift   Apus apus

Fairly common passage migrant: most June to August

The first documented record is of a record 30 on the 27th August, 1958.

A very early migrant was recorded on the 27th April, 1968. The latest individual was seen over Stremness on the 8th – 9th October, 2005 (this bird was scrutinised, as it is a late date for Common Swift).

Usually birds come in singles or groups of between 2 and 5 mainly in May to June and August to September, although occasional birds have been seen in April, July and the fore mentioned record in October. Given good observer coverage, the average total for any one year can vary between 10 and 20 birds.
