Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa striata
Fairly common passage migrant
Most records are in May, June and September.
The majority of records refer to single figures, although there are occasional
very large falls, as on the 26th
May, 1968 when 40 birds were counted on the island!
Unfortunately, due to the lack of coverage, there wasn’t a birder present on
the island in 1992 to report on numbers during the largest ever spring passage –
although, as there were 12 stragglers still present on the 1st July,
goodness knows how many were there from the 28th – 31st May!
This July record was the first for Shetland at the time!
