Singles usually arrive from March through into June. Higher numbers can pass through in the autumn from September into October in some years.

In 1993, there was a peak of 26 in Ham on the 2nd October.

In late September 1996, numbers fluctuated between 50 and 100, but there was a spike of 190 on the 3rd October.

On the 23rd September 2000, an incredible record of 600 birds was tallied, which, as far as I am aware is still the highest recorded in Shetland. 200 remained on the 24th and numbers increased slightly to 250 on the 26th

but by the 7th of October, only one remained.
