Redstart Phonenicurus phoenicurus
Fairly common passage migrant
Has been recorded from April – June and September –
October. The earliest spring bird was seen on the 30th April, 2003. The latest returning bird
was observed on the 31st
October, 1997.
Daily counts are usually in the single figures, and the majority of these
birds are seen in September. The following large fall of this species have occurred:
- A remarkable
80 were seen in early May, 1970 (Pennington
et al., 2004).
- Another exceptional count of 70 birds was made on
the 23rd September, 2000. This number dwindled from 35, on the 24th
to 30 on the 25th – 28th and into single figures by
the 5th October.
