Summer visitor with a few pairs nesting. Occasional winter
sightings around the island.
Birds have been recorded as breeding from as early as 1829 but not at the end of the century (Pennington et al., 2004). Birds were recorded as nesting again from the 1930s onwards (Pennington et al., 2004). Birds now breed annually on the small lochans with counts of up to 13 pairs having been recorded.
