Red-breasted Merganser Mergus serrator

Under-recorded. A winter visitor and passage migrant to Shetland with breeding in small numbers

· 1995 One, 16^th September and 4 on the 19^th September

· 2000 One, 25^th September and Two on the 2^nd October, both seen flying off the North End.

· 2003 One was seen on the 20^th May. There was one on the 1^st – 2^nd July, which was joined by another on the 4^th. In the autumn, there was one on the 29^th of September, and four birds on the 17^th of October, one remaining until the 26^th.

· 2004 One on the 13^th and 24^th – 26^th September. This bird was joined by a second bird on the 27^th until at least the 22^nd October, a third bird joining them on the 13^th.

Other records must exist for this species which I would be very grateful to receive.
