Very common breeding summer visitor and passage
migrant
Jackson (1966) estimated the number of breeding pairs to
be between 30 and 50 and Furness (1983) estimated the number of breeding pairs
to be between 25 and 50.
Daily
counts during the autumn passage of birds are usually in the region of several hundred.
However, amongst the large fall of birds that occurred on 23rd September, 2000, there was estimated to be an exceptional 1000 –
the highest single count for the island.
