Little Auk   Alle alle

Fairly common passage migrant and winter visitor to Shetland.

·         1966   Large numbers, approx 1000 over one hour past Strem Ness, on 26th December.

·         2003   30 were seen between Walls and Foula in December 1976, however only two birds seen from the island on the 7th October 2003.

The poor number of records reflects the degree of coverage the island receives especially outside the migration season, for there have been little to no observations made throughout the winter months – the time when most are seen.
