Lapwing   Vanellus vanellus

Summer visitor and sporadic breeding resident, common passage migrant and occasional winter visitor.

 

There are occasional records of between 1 and 10 breeding pairs dating back to the first in the 1930s, when 6 pairs were reported up until 1939 (Jackson, 1966). Twenty pairs were reported as holding territory in 2005.

 

On passage numbers usually peak in March and August - October. Maximum counts include, 75 on the 11th August 2003, 55 on the 2nd October, 2000, and 45, on the 3rd October, 2004. The average peak is around 40.
