Great Shearwater Puffinus gravis
Very rare passage
migrant.
An exceptionally early birds
was seen by Robert Duthie, on the
13th April, 1965 between
Scalloway and Foula (Pennington et al., 2004).
One was seen on 28th July, 1969 and another bird
was seen flying north-west off South Ness, on
22nd
August, 1990 (CFM). Another was seen on an organised
pelagic trip about 8km WNW off Foula on 29th August, 2000 (JC, DC et
al.). A series of sighting also took place on a JNCC Seabirds
at Sea team during a seismic survey about 150km WNW of Foula in late August
2000, involving about 12 birds.
