Crossbill   Loxia curvirostra

Common irruptive migrant

The earliest record comes from Evans and Buckley (cited in Pennington et al. 2004) give several on undated records in August and September of this year.

It is not until 1962 that the next record appears, of 75 birds, on the 18th July (Jackson, 1966). There were 180 on the 21st August 1990.

Since then singles and occasionally double figures (never more than 25) have been recorded in at least 5 years, mainly in May – July and again in August – early October.
