Coot   Fulica atra

Scarce passage migrant and winter visitor, recorded in all months on Shetland, but mainly October - May

The first records of Coot on the island come from the 1960’s, although dates and numbers are unfortunately not known (Jackson, 1966).

Three birds were recorded in 1971 – 1972 (dates unknown).

Other records, if they exist, would be greatly appreciated.
