Collard Dove   Streptopelia decaocto

Scarce and local breeding resident on Shetland and scarce passage migrant to Foula
 

The first record of this species was a single bird on the 31st May – 2nd June, 1963. The next sighting was of 7, on the 4th June 1977.

 

There are no breeding records for the island.

 

Most passage records are of one or two birds, with the occasional groups of between 5 and 10 birds, although in late May, 2004, 20 birds were noted, which is the highest count for the island to date.
