Collard Dove Streptopelia decaocto

Scarce and local breeding resident on Shetland and scarce passage migrant to Foula

The first record of this species was a single bird on the 31^st May – 2^nd June, 1963. The next sighting was of 7, on the 4^th June 1977.

There are no breeding records for the island.

Most passage records are of one or two birds, with the occasional groups of between 5 and 10 birds, although in late May, 2004, 20 birds were noted, which is the highest count for the island to date.
