Black-headed Gull   Larus ridibundus

Fairly common breeding summer visitor on Shetland, but not so for Foula. Mainly a passage migrant and occasional winter visitor.

 

This species is not commonly observed on the island, and is usually present in slightly larger numbers (single figures normally) throughout May.

 

Outwith May, observations mainly involve individuals or single figure counts, although there have been more unusual higher counts, which include:
