This valley, and the fields that make up its shallow sides, is one of the best places for finding rarities on the island. The mixture of long and short grasses, marsh, steep sided burn and iris beds can contain almost any species.

However, it is not for the feint hearted – it is exhausting work covering this difficult terrain properly. There may only be a few birds to show for it, albeit rare ones. Even then, you usually have to trip over them before they reveal themselves! Needle and haystack come to mind when working this patch!
